Cave Conservation Corps (CCC) Day Camp for Kids
July 11, 12, 13
9 am to 3 pm daily
$25 for all three days
Ages 9 – 14
Children will spend three days with park naturalists learning about caves, cave formation and cave ecosystems, including the cave food chain and why cave preservation is so important. Each day will be filled with activities both above and below ground. Campers will also participate in their very own wild caving experience (!) hosted by a trained professional caver park naturalist.
Parents will need to complete the park application form for each child to participate. This form will be sent to you via email.
Helmets are now provided for use by visitors who sign up for the off-trail cave tours. Onondaga Friends Association received a 60% discount for the helmets from Black Diamond in 2016.
In the first year of launching this great program (2015), kids had a blast and learned so much from this immersion experience! In 2015, we received a grant to bring a teacher naturalist from Earth’s Classroom (www.earthsclassroom.org), which provided caving helmets for use by the kids, and equipment/materials provided for in large part by the National Environmental Education Foundation and their partnership with Toyota. We thank these organizations and encourage you to learn more about Earth’s Classroom, as well as National Public Lands Day and the goals of the Public Lands Every Day program!
